The YouTube Video and Vimeo lecture types
YouTube video and Integrated video / Vimeo are two lecture types in the modular content editor for showing a video inside a lecture: the first points to a video already published on YouTube, and the second hosts the video through the institution’s own Vimeo account, managed automatically by Eduvem - with no extra setup to do.
The YouTube video lecture
Section titled “The YouTube video lecture”A YouTube video embedded in the lecture, pointed at only by its link. Use this when the video already exists on YouTube - for example, it is not yours, or you would rather not spend the institution’s storage.
Adding the lecture
Section titled “Adding the lecture”- In the modular content editor, click Add new lecture to this topic and choose YouTube video, in the Media and integrations section of the type picker.
- In the YouTube video ID field, paste the video’s link or just its ID (the part after
v=in the YouTube address) - Eduvem recognizes the whole link and extracts the ID on its own. - Optionally, fill in the Text field, shown below the video on the lecture.
This lecture does not use any of the institution’s storage. It also has no player colour, no thumbnail of its own, and no progress lock: the video plays in YouTube’s own player, and the institution cannot restrict its playback speed (see Playback speed for videos and audio, which applies to the other video types, not this one).
The Integrated video / Vimeo lecture
Section titled “The Integrated video / Vimeo lecture”A video hosted in the institution’s own Vimeo account, managed automatically by Eduvem. This is the recommended option when the video is yours: Vimeo protects the file against download and offers a player colour, its own thumbnail, and control over progress, none of which YouTube offers.
Adding the lecture
Section titled “Adding the lecture”- In the modular content editor, click Add new lecture to this topic and choose Integrated video / Vimeo, in the Media and integrations section of the type picker.
- Switch between Existing video and New upload:
- Existing video: paste the link or the ID of a video already in the institution’s Vimeo account - either works, the ID is extracted automatically. If the video is private or unlisted on Vimeo, paste the full link (not just the ID) so the video’s access code is picked up along with it.
- New upload: send a video file straight from your computer. Conversion and hosting on Vimeo are automatic - while Vimeo processes the uploaded video, the lecture shows a processing notice, and you can keep editing the rest of the content in the meantime. Accepted formats: MP4, MPG, MPEG, MOV, MKV and 3GP, within the editor’s video size limit.
- Optionally, fill in:
- Vimeo player colour: colour of the player’s progress bar and controls. Use the institution’s brand colour so the video matches the rest of the content.
- Vimeo thumbnail: cover image shown before the video starts. Without it, Vimeo picks an arbitrary frame from the video itself, which usually looks poor.
- Text: shown below the video on the lecture.
Autoplay
Section titled “Autoplay”- Autoplay: the video starts playing on its own, without sound, as soon as the participant reaches this slide.
- Try to start with sound: tries to start the video with sound already on. Most browsers (Chrome, Safari) block this for a participant who has never watched a Vimeo video before - in those cases the video does not start on its own, and the participant needs to click play. Leave this unchecked to guarantee the video always starts playing (without sound).
Block progress until the video is fully watched
Section titled “Block progress until the video is fully watched”Checking this option, the NEXT button only unlocks once the participant reaches the end of the video. They can pause and rewind freely, but cannot skip ahead - if they try to drag the progress bar past the point already watched, the player automatically jumps back to where they left off. After watching it once to the end, the lecture stays unlocked on later visits, with no need to watch it again.
Playback speed
Section titled “Playback speed”As with the platform’s other videos, the institution controls whether the participant can speed up or slow down playback - see Playback speed for videos and audio. While the institution allows the option, the editor shows Do not allow changing the playback speed on this lecture, to remove the control from this slide only.
Participant identifiers over the video
Section titled “Participant identifiers over the video”Both lecture types offer the Enable participant identifiers floating over the video option: a text with data about the participant (UUID, IP, CPF, or the current date and time, or a combination of them) moves continuously across the video image, in the chosen colour. It is an additional protection that makes it harder to use screen recording software.

Use YouTube when the video already exists there and is not yours, or when you would rather not spend the institution’s storage. Use Integrated video / Vimeo for your own video, with more control over how it is shown and over the participant’s progress.
