Installable app
The installable app (technically a PWA, Progressive Web App) makes Eduvem available as an app on the participant’s computer or phone, installed straight from the browser - no app store needed. Once it is ready, participants can also choose to receive some of the institution’s automatic reminders as a notification on their device.
Where to configure it
Section titled “Where to configure it”In the institution’s Identity and brand section, check Allow app usage and save. The feature only becomes available to participants once both app icons have also been uploaded on the Images tab - see Visual identity and theme.
A line under the switch, App installation, shows the current state:
- Ready: participants can install the app from the browser. - the switch is on and both icons have already been uploaded.
- Not installable yet - missing:
. Save, then upload the icons in the Images tab. - one or both icons still need to be uploaded: Small App Icon 192x192 px and Large App Icon 512x512 px.
What the participant sees
Section titled “What the participant sees”Once the feature is ready, compatible browsers offer to install Eduvem as an app:
- Chrome and Edge (computer and Android): an install icon appears in the address bar, or the install option appears in the browser’s menu.
- iPhone and iPad (Safari): there is no automatic prompt - the participant opens the Share menu and chooses Add to Home Screen.
The installed app opens in its own window, with no browser address bar - but it is still the same Eduvem, with the same login and the same content.
Reminders as notifications
Section titled “Reminders as notifications”Once the app is ready to install, each participant can turn on Receive reminders in the browser/app on their own profile. From then on, three of the institution’s automatic reminders (see Scheduled reminders) also arrive as a notification on that participant’s device: Live class starting soon, Progress has stalled, and Enrollment about to expire. Turning the feature off
Section titled “Turning the feature off”Unchecking Allow app usage and saving makes the already-installed app stop working as an app the next time each participant visits, and reminder notifications stop reaching everyone.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Do I need to upload the icons before turning the switch on? No, but the feature only becomes available to participants once both icons have also been saved.
Does this change anything for people who keep using the regular browser? No. Installing the app is optional for the participant; anyone who does not install it keeps accessing Eduvem normally.
