Gamification rules

Eduvem’s gamification turns completions into points and points into an institution ranking. The rules, in detail:

How points are awarded

• Each piece of content has a points value, defined by the administrator (the Points column appears on the Manage Contents screen).
• The participant earns the points upon completing with approval (when the content’s certificate is issued).
• If the enrollment is cancelled later, the corresponding points are subtracted.

Weekly goals and challenges (bonus points)

Beyond the points for completion, the Gamification tab unlocks two extra scoring mechanisms - both require the Ranking to be enabled first:

• Weekly goal: set a target score and a bonus value. Whoever reaches the goal within the week (the count resets every Monday) earns the bonus points and a permanent badge on the ranking.
• Challenge: enabled per category, on the Contents screen. Whoever completes every piece of content in that category earns bonus points and a permanent badge.

Note

The Ranking (and, consequently, goals and challenges) is enabled by the institution administrator in the Ranking type field, on the institution’s Configuration tab. The Gamification tab only appears for institution administrators.

The bonus points from goals and challenges go into the same score used by the ranking. A category with a challenge enabled can also get its own scoreboard within the ranking, selectable by the participant.

Ranking windows

The institution chooses the window in that same Ranking type field, on the Configuration tab:

Window	What counts
Monthly	Points earned in the current month
Yearly	Points earned in the current year
Total	Points accumulated since the beginning

The ranking can also be Disabled for the institution. A trophy icon at the top of the platform shows the ranking’s status; with Enable public points ranking icon turned on, it is visible to all participants; otherwise, only to administrators.

Who takes part

• Only active participants with at least one point in the active window.
• Institution-level administrative roles - institution administrator, content publisher, global class administrator, and global class observer - do not appear on the ranking. Roles restricted to a specific class (tutor, class administrator, class observer) are not excluded: if the person is also a participant, they compete normally.
• Test (sandbox) classes and deleted contents do not generate points.

Best practices

• Standardize the point values by effort (for example, 10 per estimated hour of content): rankings perceived as fair engage more.
• Prefer the monthly window for continuous programs: it restarts the competition every month and gives a chance to those who arrived later.
